Spring Break: Reykjavik

Today, my sister and I leave for Rekyjavik. I’ve spent the past month casually mentioning the upcoming trip at every opportunity. Conversation partners, in turn, are eager to demonstrate that they are knowledgeable about the little island nation. More often than not, they respond with one of the two following facts:

“You know, they call Iceland ‘a geneticist’s dream come true.'”

“You know, Iceland is supposed to be the safest place in the world to go hitchhiking.”

My favorite response, however, is the rare and flattering:

“Are you visiting family?”
